Gyruss Gyruss - ReviewGyruss is the conversion of the arcade game with the same name. Even though it was published in 1984 it still is one on of the closest conversions made. The title screen Your missionGyruss is one of those games with simple design, but which is challenging and offers hours of entertainment. The objective is to take your space ship through the solar system. On the way you encounter hoards of enemies. An attack wave at an early stage In contrary to most of the games in this category, the screen is not scrolling horizontally, the ship moves towards the centre of the screen (or rather, the movement of the objects creates this feeling). You can steer the ship in a circle all around the screen and fire towards the centre. There is only way to power up the ship - by shooting orbs, the fire power can be doubled. Shoot the orbs The enemies attack in waves and try to interfere in you journey towards Earth. You must destroy all enemies to safely warp one step closer. Sometimes you get to bonus stages where you should collect bonus score. Neptune This game always reminds me of my brother's friend, who when he was about to pass all stages for the second time in one go (this is very difficult and takes a lot of time) switched off the computer by pressing the switch on the transformer with his foot. Quite funny it was. Uranus Overall impressionThe graphics are simple but work well with the game and are close to those of the arcade game. The number of onscreen objects is high but everything moves smoothly. The music is catchy but you don't get fed up with it even though it repeats constantly. But the best part of the game is that it's great fun and that you don't get tired of it. If you ask me, this game is one of the classics of the C64. RatingThis is my personal rating of this game.
